In a deal from the bodice to the hem

In the court of his eyes closed

 

This year’s monarch received

His red biretta, his bloody repast

Sheath-style, the program continued

Dotted swiss & long of legs

Stand rapt: Doreen’s Jazz Band & scepter were

Which gave fringe to the grits & skirts

 

At a strapless, as-good-as-dead dinner

A daughter of Theseus—hero of Athens

In tiers of hydrangeas cascading

 

Presented the theme: a bowl of thread

Midnight’s inverted pleats ensued

& Noon matched crowns with her wild
